SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Software Corporation today announced the availability of Interstage XWand v7 (formerly Interstage XBRL Processor), the newest version of Fujitsu's industry-leading XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) software toolkit. Interstage XWand v7 features enhancements for efficiently creating and managing financial reports, which enable organizations to quickly realize the many benefits of implementing XBRL-based solutions. Other key features include an XBRL API and tools supporting XBRL 2.1, the latest standard specification, and the availability of an Oracle adapter, which enables companies to store their XBRL documents and components in Oracle databases.
Interstage XWand is the first, fully compliant XBRL development and runtime environment. With Interstage XWand v7, financial enterprises, regulatory bodies and investment firms can build and deploy full-feature, industrial-strength XBRL applications that comply with financial reporting mandates such as Sarbanes-Oxley and Basel II.
The new functionality of version 7 builds on the proven performance of Interstage XWand to deliver an application development and runtime environment for building and deploying robust XBRL applications. As market conditions and compliance regulations continue to evolve, Interstage XWand is an important solution component for enabling regulatory compliance and providing greater transparency in financial reporting. With Interstage XWand, companies are able to comply with mandates from regulatory bodies to file their financial data in the XBRL standard. Interstage XWand v7 also improves financial reporting processes for corporations, regulatory bodies and investment firms, and simplifies the analysis of corporate accounting statements for investment portfolio, risk review and loan purposes.
According to a Gartner report(1) published in January 2005, "Companies need to be evaluating an XBRL solution in the short term. For 2005 tax returns due in 2006, the IRS will require corporations with $50 million or more in assets to file forms 1120 and 1120S electronically. In the same time period, tax-exempt organizations with $100 million or more in assets will be required to file From 990 electronically. Beginning in 2007, the electronic filing requirement will include 2006 returns of corporations and tax-exempt organizations with $10 million or more in total assets."
How Interstage XWand Addresses Financial Reporting Problems
Paper is the primary means of exchanging financial data reporting between corporations, banks, investors, analysts and supervisory authorities. Reports are created by extracting data from an IT-based system, formatted into a proprietary report, and then the printed copy sent to various parties. The report receiver in turn may input the data into another system, reformat it, and then send this copy to various parties. Interstage XWand provides the means for IT-based solutions to extract the financial data and format it into XBRL reports, which can then be sent via the Internet. While eliminating paper from the entire reporting process, it reduces the time to generate the reports and decreases the possibility of errors inherent in the manual entry and reentry of data.
"XBRL tools hold promise -- especially for investment firms and banks -- as a tool to simplify internal and external performance reporting, and they will facilitate analysis of corporate accounting statements for investment and loan purposes," said Rita Knox, Gartner analyst.
"Interstage XWand is the market-leading XBRL enabler. Today it is used by many of the regulatory bodies of the world's major financial centers which are focused on regulatory compliance and greater transparency in financial reporting through the use of XBRL," said Robert Sepanloo, senior vice president of Interstage at Fujitsu Software Corporation. "With Interstage XWand version 7, we bring added capabilities that further facilitate the ability of enterprises to leverage the XBRL standard for both internal and external financial reporting."
