Fed: Howard says Australians will stay focused on GST benefits
CANBERRA, Feb 15 AAP - Australians would stay focused on the benefits of the GST, despite
the Labor Party's scare-a-day campaign, according to Prime Minister John Howard.
With parliament resuming today, Mr Howard said he expected the GST to play a large
part in proceedings.
"It's all part of the game, it's an inevitable part of the job" he told the Nine Network
last night.
"There won't be an election until the end of next year.
"I don't know what's going to happen at the next election. I don't take anything for granted."
Mr Howard said Australians would see the benefits of the GST.
"Tax reform will be good for Australia," he said.
"Average families will be $40 or $50 better off as a result of tax reform.
"I'm committed to tax reform because it's good for the country. If I go through a period
of unpopularity in the process, so be it."
